Mahalia Jackson - Gospels, Spirituals, & Hymns

Mahalia Jackson est considérée à juste titre comme la plus grande chanteuse de Gospel de tous les temps. Grande admiratrice de Bessie Smith, elle est également la première à marier le chant religieux avec le blues issu des quartiers malfamés, musicalement du moins, puisqu'elle refusera toute sa vie de chanter des paroles profanes dont elle ne comprend pas le désespoir. Âme de la musique noire, la voix de Mahalia Jackson est unique et l'émotion dont elle est empreinte nous touche, à chaque coup, en plein coeur...

Thanks for this. When I was about fifteen I had the opportunity to hear her in a church service on the South Side of Chicago in the late fifties. It was a formative experience
